In short

Depression therapy at Counseling Services for Wellbeing helps Seattle-area adults with low mood, exhaustion and lost motivation, treating depression as a whole-body pattern across energy, sleep and mood. We accept most major insurance plans, book same-week appointments and see clients at our Green Lake, Burien and Smokey Point offices or by secure video statewide.

Does this sound familiar?

You have been pushing through on an empty tank.

You wake up tired no matter how long you slept. The day ahead feels like a hill you do not have the legs for. Small tasks, the dishes, the email, the shower, carry a weight they never used to. The things you once enjoyed feel like effort now, or they feel like nothing at all.

It is not always sadness. Sometimes it is a flatness that is heavier than sadness, a kind of static where feeling used to be. You might be functioning on the outside, getting to work, answering the texts, keeping it together, while inside the fuel gauge sits on empty. People keep telling you to push through. You have been pushing through. That is the problem.

Depression is not a character flaw and it is not just in your head. It runs through your energy, your sleep and your motivation, which is why treating only the mood part rarely gets all the way there. You have been pushing through on an empty tank. The next step is care that treats the whole weight of it, not just the mood.

What we offer

Depression therapy for adults whose exhaustion is more than low mood.

Energy and motivation gone

Mornings are the hardest. Getting going feels like pushing a car uphill. The motivation just is not there.

Sleep that does not restore

Sleeping too much or never enough. Waking unrefreshed no matter the hours. Tired in a way sleep does not fix.

The body that will not move

Heaviness in the limbs. No appetite or too much. The pull to stay in bed when the day is already waiting.

Flatness more than sadness

Not crying, just numb. A static where feeling used to be. Going through the motions on the outside.

Lost interest in what used to matter

The things you once looked forward to feel like effort now, or they feel like nothing at all.

Postpartum and perinatal low mood

Exhausted in a way sleep does not fix, flat or tearful when you expected joy, during pregnancy or after a baby.

First-time-therapy adults are welcome. You do not need to hit a certain level of bad before you deserve help.

Our approach

How depression therapy works here.

We treat low mood as a whole-body pattern, working with your energy, sleep, body and thinking together, rather than talking in isolation.

1

Reach out

A short form or a call. We hear what is going on, where depression is hitting hardest, and what you have already tried. No assessment battery to clear before we talk.

2

Get matched

We pair you with a therapist whose approach fits how your depression actually shows up. Body-heavy depression lands with a somatic clinician. Depression with trauma underneath lands with EMDR. The protective parts running on empty land with IFS.

3

Start this week

First appointment in person at one of three Seattle-area offices or by secure video anywhere in Washington. Same therapist each session. The early sessions are about understanding how depression shows up and finding one or two real places to start, not diving into the deep end before you are ready.

The method

Why a whole-body lens.

Cognitive behavioral therapy, one of the science-backed psychotherapies recommended in the American Psychological Association's clinical practice guideline for depression, is broadly available across our team. For people whose depression sits heavily in the body, we have therapists who work somatically and with nervous-system regulation.

CBT for skills and behavioral activation. Somatic and nervous-system work for the physical weight CBT cannot reach. EMDR when depression sits on top of trauma. IFS for the protective parts running on empty. We match the modality to how your depression actually shows up, not the other way around.

We are not the cheapest cash-pay practice in the city and we are not trying to be. We are the option that takes your insurance, gets you in this week, treats the whole weight of depression, and can coordinate therapy with medication inside one practice.

Frequently asked questions

What adults ask before starting depression therapy.

Do you take my insurance for depression therapy?

We accept Kaiser, Premera, Regence, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare and Cigna. We will confirm what your specific plan covers before your first session, so you know what to expect rather than guessing.

How soon can I be seen?

First appointments are available the same week, not weeks out. Much of the Seattle market books four to six weeks ahead or is cash-pay only, which is a long time to wait when you are already running on empty. Reach out and we will find the first opening that works for you, in person or by secure video.

Do you offer depression therapy online or only in person?

Both. You can meet in person at our Green Lake, Burien or Smokey Point offices, or by secure video anywhere in Washington with online depression therapy, with the same therapist either way. When leaving the house feels like more than you can manage, telehealth lets you start from home with no change in who you work with.

What happens in depression therapy?

Early sessions focus on understanding how depression is showing up for you, across your mood, energy, sleep and motivation, and finding one or two real places to start. From there, the work is about rebuilding momentum at a pace that fits where you are. There is no pressure to feel a certain way or share more than you are ready to.

Do you treat depression and anxiety together?

Yes. Depression and anxiety often travel together, and it is common for the same therapist to address both rather than treating them as separate problems. Working with one person across both means the care stays coordinated and you do not have to retell your story to a second clinician.

Do you help with postpartum or perinatal depression?

Yes. We support low mood, exhaustion and overwhelm during pregnancy and after a baby arrives, which the National Institute of Mental Health notes is common and treatable. Vanessa Davis specializes in perinatal, postpartum and maternal mental health, and you can meet in person or by secure video, whichever is more manageable with a newborn at home.

Can therapy and medication work together for depression?

Yes. Our therapy team and our psychiatric team are in the same practice, so when medication is part of the picture, the two sides coordinate rather than working as strangers who never talk to each other. Medication is never the only option we offer, and you will not be pushed toward it.

Take the next step

You do not have to keep pushing through on an empty tank.

Depression therapy can help you find your footing again, and you can start this week. Counseling Services for Wellbeing accepts most major insurance plans, books first appointments the same week, and matches you with a therapist who treats depression as a whole-body pattern, in person at our Green Lake, Burien and Smokey Point offices or by secure video across Washington.
