In short

A child and teen ADHD evaluation is a structured look at attention, activity and daily function across home and school that helps clarify whether ADHD explains your child's struggles, and what may help. At Counseling Services for Wellbeing it is a whole-child assessment with parents involved, in person at three Seattle-area offices or by secure video statewide. We accept most major insurance plans and book same-week.

Does this sound familiar?

You have wondered for years what is going on with your kid.

The school keeps sending notes home. Your bright kid cannot get through a single worksheet, and homework has become a nightly battle that ends with both of you frustrated. You have wondered for years now whether this is just their personality or something with a name.

When you went looking for answers, you ran into the same walls everyone does. The places that test for ADHD are months out, or they want cash up front, or they treat the whole thing like a quick checklist and a script. None of that feels like enough when it is your child.

What you want is a real answer and someone who will look at your whole child, not a rushed appointment that decides everything before anyone has understood what is actually going on. That is what a good ADHD evaluation for a child or teen is supposed to be, and it is what an evaluation here is built to be.

What we offer

ADHD evaluation and treatment for children and teens whose struggles are more than a phase.

Notes keep coming home from school

Trouble staying on task, finishing work or sitting still. Teachers keep raising the same concerns year after year.

Bright kid, slipping grades

You know how capable they are, but the work is not getting done and the gap between ability and output keeps widening.

Homework is a nightly battle

A worksheet that should take ten minutes takes an hour, and it ends with both of you frustrated and worn out.

You have wondered for years

Is this just their personality, or something with a name. You want a real answer rather than another guess.

A whole-child look, not a checklist

You want an evaluation that takes in school, sleep and home life, not a rushed form filled out in a single short visit.

A plan you have a say in

Weighing what to do after a diagnosis, and wanting an unhurried conversation where any next step is decided together.

We serve both children and teens. The starting points differ, but the outcome is the same: clarity about what is going on for your child, and a plan you understand and agree with.

Our approach

How an ADHD evaluation works for kids and teens here.

We look at the whole child, history, daily function at home and school, sleep and the life around the symptoms, rather than running a quick checklist.

1

Reach out

A short form or a call. We hear what is going on for your child, where the struggles are hitting hardest, at school and at home, and what you have already tried. No long testing battery to clear before we talk.

2

Get matched

We pair your family with a psychiatric provider who works with your child's age and who can assess ADHD. The right provider depends on whether your child is in grade school or a teen, so we match the age and the concern, not whoever is available.

3

Start this week

The evaluation is an unhurried conversation with you and your child, in person at one of three Seattle-area offices or by secure video anywhere in Washington. If ADHD fits, we build a plan together. If it does not, you still leave with clarity and a direction, which is its own kind of answer.

The method

What a child and teen ADHD evaluation is.

A child and teen ADHD evaluation is a structured assessment of attention, activity and daily function across home and school that helps clarify whether ADHD explains a child's struggles, and what may help. ADHD is a recognized condition with established approaches to evaluation and care in children and teens, as described by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute of Mental Health. We point to those sources to explain how careful evaluation and care work, never to promise a result for any one child.

If a plan involves treatment, it is made with you, not handed down. Some families work with behavior strategies, school support and therapy. For some, medication is part of the picture. If medication is ever considered, it is discussed and explained, never assumed, and therapy is available alongside medication when that fits the work. The same provider follows your child over time as part of ongoing ADHD treatment and medication management, revisiting how things are going as your child grows. If your child needs the broader picture of child and adolescent psychiatry, that is part of the same practice.

A 15-minute med check with a pediatrician is a real and reasonable first step, and many parents start there. What we add is the time for a whole-child evaluation, providers who work with both kids and teens, therapy available alongside care, and a plan you help build, with your insurance and a same-week first appointment.

Frequently asked questions

What parents ask before starting child and teen ADHD care.

How does ADHD evaluation work for kids at Counseling Services for Wellbeing?

We look at the whole child, history, daily function at home and school, sleep and the life around the symptoms, not just a checklist. A psychiatric provider who works with your child's age leads the evaluation, with you involved. If ADHD fits, we plan next steps together. If it does not, you still leave with clarity.

Do you take my insurance for child ADHD testing?

Yes. Counseling Services for Wellbeing accepts Kaiser, Premera, Regence, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare and Cigna for child and teen ADHD care. We confirm your child's coverage before the first visit so you know what to expect. Many local ADHD-testing providers are cash-pay, so accepting insurance is one reason families choose us.

How much does ADHD testing for kids cost?

Cost depends on your insurance, so we confirm your child's coverage before the first visit rather than quoting a flat cash rate. We accept Kaiser, Premera, Regence, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare and Cigna for child and teen ADHD care. Reach out by phone or through the form and we will walk you through what to expect.

How soon can my child get an ADHD evaluation?

First appointments are usually available the same week. Pediatric ADHD testing often means long waits elsewhere in Seattle, so being seen quickly is one reason families come to Counseling Services for Wellbeing. You can request an appointment by phone or through the form on this page.

At what age can you evaluate my child for ADHD?

We evaluate and support both children and teens for ADHD. The right provider depends on your child's age, so we match your family with a psychiatric provider who works with that age and who can assess ADHD. Reach out and we will help you find the right fit.

Will my child be put on medication if they have ADHD?

No. A diagnosis is not an automatic prescription. If ADHD fits, we build a plan together with you, and any decision about medication is discussed and explained, never assumed. Therapy is available alongside medication when that fits. The goal is a plan you understand and agree with.

Do you offer child and teen ADHD care online or only in person?

Both. We see children and teens for ADHD in person at our Green Lake, Burien and Smokey Point offices, or by secure video anywhere in Washington with online psychiatry. Many families find video visits easier to fit around school, and your child sees the same provider each time.

Take the next step

You do not have to wonder for another year to find out what is going on with your child.

An ADHD evaluation here starts with a real conversation, with you in the room, and your child can be seen this week. Counseling Services for Wellbeing accepts most major insurance plans, books first appointments the same week, and matches your child with a psychiatric provider who looks at the whole child and decides any next step together with you, in person at our Green Lake, Burien and Smokey Point offices or by secure video across Washington.
