Adult Life Transitions Therapy · Seattle · Statewide WA Telehealth

Therapy for the change you are actually in, not a diagnosis you do not have.

When life stops looking like it used to, a divorce, a career change, a move, an empty house, it can knock you sideways even when nothing is wrong. You can talk it through with a therapist who gets it. Same-week appointment availability. Most major insurance plans accepted.

In short

Life transitions therapy at Counseling Services for Wellbeing helps Seattle-area adults move through a major life change like divorce, a career shift, a move, an empty nest, caregiving or retirement. A hard change is not a disorder and you do not need a diagnosis to come in. We accept most major insurance plans, book same-week appointments and meet in person at three offices or by secure video statewide.

Does this sound familiar?

Life shifted, and you have not caught up to it yet.

Maybe the marriage is ending, or it already ended and you are still figuring out who you are on the other side of it. Maybe the job disappeared, or you walked away from it and the relief did not last as long as you thought it would. Maybe you moved somewhere new and the city still does not feel like yours. Maybe the house got quiet when the kids left, and the quiet is louder than you expected.

Maybe you have become the person everyone leans on, and there is nothing left over by the end of the day. Maybe a birthday hit harder than it should have. Maybe none of these fit exactly, and all you can really say is that life shifted and you have not caught up to it yet.

A big change can knock you sideways even when nothing is technically wrong. It is not a disorder and it does not need to be one. You do not have to wait until it gets worse to talk to someone about it. The next step is a conversation with a therapist who treats the change you are actually in, not a label you may not have.

What we offer

Therapy for the change you are moving through, whatever it is.

Relationship change and divorce

The end of a marriage or a long relationship, and the work of figuring out who you are afterward. This is individual support through a separation.

Career change and job loss

A layoff, a pivot, a retirement on the horizon or the slow realization that the work no longer fits. The identity questions are part of the work, not a distraction from it.

Identity and who am I now

The version of your life that ended before the next one started, and the in-between where you are not sure who you are yet.

Relocation and starting over

A new city, a new chapter, the loneliness of building a life from scratch somewhere that does not feel like home yet.

Empty nest and shifting family roles

The quiet house, the change in your day-to-day purpose and the question of what comes next when the role you knew best is over.

Loss that is not a death

A divorce, a move, a role you let go of, the kind of grief-adjacent change that is real loss without anyone dying. If you are grieving a death, that is grief counseling.

You do not have to know how to categorize what you are going through. If you are not sure your change counts, it does. You can start with one conversation.

Our approach

How life transitions therapy works here.

We look at how a change is actually landing, not only the thoughts about it. A big transition shows up in your sleep, your energy, your routine and your mood, so we work with the whole picture.

1

Reach out

A short form or a call. We hear what is going on, which change you are in the middle of and what feels hardest right now. No assessment battery to clear before we talk, and no diagnosis required to start.

2

Get matched

We pair you with a therapist who fits the change you are actually in. Because the bench here is deep and broad, you can start with one conversation instead of guessing which specialist you would otherwise call.

3

Start this week

First appointment in person at one of three Seattle-area offices or by secure video anywhere in Washington. Same therapist each session. The work is practical and supportive, oriented to helping you move through the transition, not settling in for something endless.

The approach

One door for many changes.

Adjusting to a hard change is a normal human passage, and difficulty adjusting to one is something the American Psychological Association recognizes as a common, workable reason people seek therapy. Our practice was founded on the idea that mental health care should account for the whole person, so we work with how a change is landing across your sleep, energy, routine and mood, rather than the story in your head alone.

Therapy may help you find your footing and feel more like yourself through a hard change. We will not promise to hand your old life back or guarantee how it turns out. What we offer is steady, practical support while you work out what comes next, with the same therapist beside you the whole way.

We are not the cheapest cash-pay practice in the city and we are not trying to be. We are the option that meets the change you are actually in without making you carry a diagnosis you do not have, takes your insurance, gets you in this week, and looks at how the change is landing across your whole life.

We confirm coverage before your first session, so getting support through a transition does not have to wait until you can afford cash-pay rates. First appointments are available the same week, which matters when a change has a clock on it, a move date, a separation, a last day at a job.

Frequently asked questions

What adults ask before starting life transitions therapy.

Do you take my insurance for life transitions therapy?

We accept Kaiser, Premera, Regence, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare and Cigna. We will confirm what your specific plan covers before your first session, so you know what to expect rather than guessing. You do not have to be in crisis or carry a diagnosis for a transition to be a valid reason to start therapy.

Do I need a diagnosis to come in for a life change?

No. A major change is not a disorder, and you do not need a label to get support through one. Plenty of people come to us simply because life shifted and they have not caught up, and that is reason enough. Your therapist will meet you where you are, not where a diagnosis says you should be.

What kinds of life changes do you work with?

Divorce and separation, a career change or job loss, relocation, the empty nest, a new caregiving role, retirement and the harder-to-name in-between moments where life stopped looking like it used to. When a change has tipped into low mood or constant worry, the same therapist can also bring in depression therapy or anxiety therapy. If you are not sure your change counts, it does. One conversation is enough to figure out where to start.

Can therapy help with divorce or separation?

Yes. We offer individual support through the end of a relationship, the practical and emotional work and the question of who you are afterward. If both partners want to come into the room together, that is couples therapy, which we also offer, but this page is for the individual finding their own footing.

Is this the same as grief counseling?

Not quite. This page is for change and adjustment, including the kind of loss that is real but not a death, a divorce, a move, a role you let go of. If you are grieving the death of someone you love, that is grief counseling, and we can help you there. The two often overlap, and your therapist can hold both.

How soon can I be seen?

First appointments are available the same week, not weeks out, which matters when a transition has a clock on it. Much of the Seattle market books four to six weeks ahead or is cash-pay only. Reach out and we will find the first opening that works for you, in person or by secure video.

Do you offer this online or only in person?

Both. You can meet in person at our Green Lake, Burien or Smokey Point offices, or by secure video anywhere in Washington with online therapy across Washington, with the same therapist either way. Telehealth helps when a move, a packed-up house or a stretched-thin schedule makes getting to an office hard during a transition.

Take the next step

You do not have to white-knuckle a change that knocked you sideways.

A transition is hard enough on its own, and you do not have to have it figured out before you reach out. Counseling Services for Wellbeing accepts most major insurance plans, books first appointments the same week, and matches you with a therapist who treats the change you are actually in, in person at our Green Lake, Burien and Smokey Point offices or by secure video across Washington.
