In short

Teen therapy at Counseling Services for Wellbeing helps Seattle-area adolescents work through anxiety, low mood, peer and identity pressure and grief, with a therapist who knows how to earn a teen's trust. We accept most major insurance plans, book first appointments the same week and see teens at our three offices or by secure video statewide.

Does this sound familiar?

The hardest part is usually the silence.

The bedroom door stays shut. The answers are one word long. The moods are hard to read, and the teen you used to be able to reach feels a little further away every month. Underneath it, there is the friend-group drama, the comparison, the pressure to be okay when they are not and the sense that your teen is carrying something they will not name out loud.

If you have already tried to help and been met with a wall, you are not failing. Adolescents are wired to pull away, and a teen who is struggling will often guard it hardest from the people closest to them. The worry many parents carry is the next one. That pushing therapy will make them shut down harder, or that the wrong therapist will lose them in the first session.

That worry is fair. The answer is not just any therapist. It is someone who works with adolescents, knows how to earn a teen's trust without forcing it and lets your teen open up on their own terms.

What we offer

Teen therapy for adolescents carrying more than they let on.

Withdrawal and the closed door

One-word answers and a teen who feels further away every month. The kid you know is still in there, just harder to reach.

Low mood that lingers

Flat, tired or quietly down for longer than a rough week. Less interest in the friends and activities that used to matter.

Peer pressure and friend-group stress

The drama, the comparison, the pressure to fit in. The social weight that follows a teen home and onto every screen.

Grief and loss

A death, a move, a family that changed shape. A teen processing loss in their own way, on their own clock, not anyone else's.

Identity, self-esteem and body image

Working out who they are while feeling watched and measured. The pressure to be okay, and to look it, that never quite lets up.

Adjustment and school stress

A new school, a family change, a pressure that knocked them off balance. The weight of figuring out where they fit now.

If your child is younger, our child therapy in Seattle page speaks to the early and pre-teen years. The two pages cross-link so you land in the right place.

Our approach

How teen therapy works here.

A teen who will not open up does not need a faster intake or a stack of forms. They need the right person first. We lead with trust and fit, then the harder work follows.

1

Reach out

A short form or a call. We hear what is going on, how your teen is showing up at home and at school, and what you have already tried. No assessment battery for your teen to clear before anyone talks.

2

Get matched

Fit matters more than anything else, and with teens it is everything. At intake we learn how your teen shows up and pair them with the adolescent clinician most likely to reach them, not whoever is open.

3

Start this week

First appointment in person at one of three Seattle-area offices or by secure video anywhere in Washington. Your teen sees the same therapist each session. The early sessions are about safety and rapport, not diving into the deep end before your teen is ready.

The method

Trust comes before the worksheet.

Our adolescent clinicians spend their days with this age group and know how to build trust on a teen's terms, so the first goal is connection, not a quick fix. We balance your teen's growing need for privacy with your need to stay informed, and we explain how up front so there are no surprises for either of you. Teens are far more willing to talk when they know the room is theirs.

When the work goes deeper, the approach fits the teen. Cognitive behavioral therapy for the anxious thinking and the skills, work that draws on EMDR when a hard experience is sitting underneath, and DBT skills for the big feelings that are hard to ride out. We match the approach to how your teen actually shows up, available with trained clinicians on the team.

We are not the cheapest cash-pay practice in the city and we are not trying to be. We are the option that takes your insurance, gets your teen in this week, matches them with an adolescent clinician they can actually talk to, and can bring in adolescent psychiatry inside one practice if it is ever needed.

Frequently asked questions

What parents ask before starting teen therapy.

Do you take my insurance for teen therapy?

We accept Kaiser, Premera, Regence, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare and Cigna for teen therapy. We will confirm your teen's specific coverage before the first appointment, so you know exactly what to expect rather than guessing, and there are no surprise bills after the first visit.

How soon can my teen be seen?

First appointments are available the same week. You do not have to wait through a long local waitlist while your teen struggles, the way much of the Seattle market books four to six weeks out or only takes cash. Reach out and we will find the first opening that works for your family, in person or by secure video.

What if my teen does not want to go to therapy?

That is one of the most common reasons families call, so you are not alone in it. The right fit comes first. We match your teen with a therapist who knows how to earn an adolescent's trust without forcing it, so your teen can open up on their own terms rather than feeling marched into a stranger's office.

Do you help teens with grief and loss?

Yes. Grief and loss is one of the more common reasons adolescents start therapy, and several of our clinicians work with teens working through it. We meet a grieving teen where they are rather than rushing them through it, and we help them find ways to carry a loss that fit how they actually process hard things.

Can my teen be seen online or only in person?

Both. Teen therapy is available in person at our Green Lake, Burien and Smokey Point offices and by secure video across Washington with online therapy. Many teens are more comfortable on video, from their own room and on their own terms, and we will talk through what fits your teen at intake so the format helps rather than hinders.

How will I stay informed as a parent?

We explain up front how your teen's privacy and your need to stay in the loop are balanced, so you and your teen both know what to expect before you start. Adolescents talk more freely when they trust the room is theirs, and a clear agreement at the outset is what makes that possible for everyone.

Will my teen just be put on medication?

No. Therapy is the primary work, and for most teens it is all that is needed. If a psychiatric evaluation or medication could help, we have psychiatry providers who see adolescents in the same practice, and any step like that is a decision you make together with the team, never something pushed on you or rushed. Depression and anxiety in teens are common and treatable, and therapy is often where it starts.

Take the next step

Your teen does not have to carry it alone.

You do not have to keep guessing at what is wrong. Request an appointment and we will match your teen with a therapist they can actually talk to, often within the same week. Counseling Services for Wellbeing accepts most major insurance plans, books first appointments the same week, and sees teens in person at our Green Lake, Burien and Smokey Point offices or by secure video across Washington.
