In short

Anger management therapy at Counseling Services for Wellbeing helps Seattle-area adults understand what drives the anger and respond differently. It is individual therapy, not a court class, so confirm any court requirement before starting. We accept most major insurance plans, book same-week appointments and see clients at our Green Lake, Burien and Smokey Point offices or by secure video statewide.

Does this sound familiar?

It is the look on their face after you snap.

It is the look on their face after you snap. The flinch you did not used to see. You did not mean for it to come out that hard, but it did, and now you are the one apologizing again, promising again, hoping they believe you again.

The short fuse scares the people you love. The simmering resentment leaks out sideways, in the tone, the silence, the comment you could have kept to yourself. You spend the hour after a blowup in regret, replaying what you said, knowing it cost you something you cannot fully take back. And it is not only at home. A reaction you wish you could rewind has strained a friendship, a marriage, a job.

Being told to get anger management does not fix anything by itself. You do not want a box to check. You want the pattern to actually change. That starts with understanding what the anger is really about, which is the work anger management therapy is built to do.

What we offer

Anger management therapy for adults whose anger has started to outrun them.

A short fuse that scares the people you love

It comes out harder and faster than you meant it to, and you see the flinch you did not used to see.

Resentment that leaks out sideways

It rarely comes out straight. It shows up in the tone, the silence, the comment you could have kept to yourself.

The hour of regret after you snap

You replay what you said, knowing it cost you something you cannot fully take back, and promise it will not happen again.

Anger that lives in your body first

The clenched jaw, the heat in the chest, the racing pulse, on before a single word is said.

Reactions straining a marriage or a job

A moment you wish you could rewind has cost you at home or at work, and you want it to stop costing you.

Told to get anger management

A partner or someone else said to get it, and you want something that actually works, not just a course to sit through.

First-time-therapy adults are welcome. You do not need to have it figured out before you reach out.

Our approach

How anger management therapy works here.

We treat anger as a whole-body event, working with the nervous system and the triggers together, rather than talk in isolation.

1

Reach out

A short form or a call. We hear what is going on, where the anger is hitting hardest, and what it has cost you so far. No assessment battery to clear before we talk. If you are looking for a packaged court class, we will be straight with you about what therapy is and is not.

2

Get matched

We pair you with a therapist whose approach fits how your anger actually shows up. Reactivity that fires before you can think lands with a clinician who works with the nervous system. Anger that sits on top of old hurt lands with someone trained to work underneath it. You see the same therapist each session.

3

Start this week

First appointment in person at one of three Seattle-area offices or by secure video anywhere in Washington. The early sessions are about understanding your triggers and the patterns underneath, then building responses you can use in the real moments, at the dinner table, in the meeting, in the car. The work is practical and paced to you, not a script you have to follow.

The method

Why we work on what is underneath.

Anger is a normal emotion, and the American Psychological Association notes that when it becomes hard to control it can be worked with through approaches that help people recognize triggers and respond more effectively. Cognitive behavioral therapy, a common and well-studied approach to anger patterns, is broadly available across our team. For people whose anger fires in the body before the thought ever lands, we have therapists who work with the nervous system and emotion regulation directly.

CBT for the thinking and the behavioral skills. DBT skills for emotion regulation and distress tolerance in the heated moment. Somatic and nervous-system work for the clenched jaw, the heat, the racing pulse. EMDR when the anger sits on top of old trauma. We match the approach to how your anger actually shows up. The aim is not to never feel angry. It is to change what you do with it.

We do not run a packaged class with a completion certificate, and if a court or employer requires one we will tell you that honestly. What we offer is therapy that takes your insurance, gets you in this week, and works on what is actually driving the anger so the pattern can change.

Frequently asked questions

What adults ask before starting anger management therapy.

Do you offer anger management classes?

We offer anger management therapy rather than a packaged class. Therapy is individual work with a licensed clinician that looks at what drives the anger and builds tools to respond differently, rather than a multi-week course with a completion certificate. If you specifically need a class for a court or employer, confirm their required format first, since therapy and a class are not always interchangeable.

Will your anger management satisfy a court or employer requirement?

What a court or employer accepts is set by them, and some require a specific class format rather than therapy. We cannot promise that documentation from us will be accepted, since acceptance is always their decision. Confirm their exact requirements before you start, and talk with your therapist at intake about whether and how progress can be documented for an outside party.

What happens in anger management therapy?

The work starts with understanding your triggers and what is feeding the anger underneath, such as stress, hurt, fear or old patterns. From there you and your therapist build practical responses you can use in the real moments, and learn to read the early body signals that give you a half-second of choice. Some people find a structured approach like CBT helpful here. It is paced to you, with no script you have to follow.

Do you take my insurance for anger management therapy?

We accept Kaiser, Premera, Regence, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare and Cigna. We will confirm what your specific plan covers before your first session, so you know what to expect rather than guessing. If you are unsure about your coverage, reach out and we will help you check before you book.

How soon can I be seen?

First appointments are available the same week, not weeks out. Much of the Seattle market books four to six weeks ahead or is cash-pay only, so you do not have to wait long to start. Reach out and we will find the first opening that works with your schedule, in person or by secure video.

Do you offer anger management therapy online or only in person?

Both. You can meet in person at our Green Lake, Burien or Smokey Point offices, or by secure video anywhere in Washington with online therapy in Washington, with the same therapist either way. Video sessions work well for this work and can help on the weeks when a tense commute is the last thing you need.

Where are your offices?

We see clients at three offices: Green Lake in Seattle, Burien and Smokey Point in Arlington, plus secure video sessions anywhere in Washington. The Green Lake office serves North Seattle, the Burien office serves South King County and the Smokey Point office serves north Snohomish County. You can also meet entirely online if that is easier for you.

Take the next step

You do not have to keep apologizing for the same reaction.

Anger management therapy can help you change the pattern at its root, and you can start this week. Counseling Services for Wellbeing accepts most major insurance plans, books first appointments the same week, and matches you with a therapist who works on what is under the anger, in person at our Green Lake, Burien and Smokey Point offices or by secure video across Washington.
