Locations: Burien, Telehealth
Hello! My name is Abigail, but you can call me Abbie. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I accept individuals 12+ years of age in person and over telehealth. My areas of focus are depression, anxiety, life adjustment issues, behavioral issues, relationship issues, grief, and trauma.
Background and Experience
I was born and raised in the Southside suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. I received my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Governors State University. I have worked with diverse populations, seeing individuals, couples, and families struggling with issues such as depression, anxiety, grief, marital problems, bipolar disorder, life adjustment issues, and difficulties with emotional regulation.
My Approach & Philosophy
What drew me to pursue counseling from a young age was my therapist helping me finally find a voice that I didn’t even know I had. My therapeutic approach is to empower my clients to find their voice while providing them with a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space. I believe that the client is the expert on their own life. I will always create a collaborative relationship with my clients and do my best to be as genuine and transparent as possible.
The theories I work from are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Person-Centered Theory. However, I always think it’s best to meet the clients where they are, so I will pull interventions and work from other theories as needed. Treatment for mental health issues is never “one size fits all.” Like I said, I want to have a collaborative relationship with my clients, so if you feel like something isn’t working or I’m not meeting your needs, tell me! I’d be happy to change my approach to meet your needs and make therapy more effective for you.
I also understand that creating a therapeutic relationship with someone you don’t know can be very intimidating. That’s why, along with being compassionate and nonjudgmental, I will also be genuine and bring a sense of humor. Regardless of our roles as therapist and client, we are still people, and I always want you to feel like you’re talking to a real person.
In my free time you can find me obsessing over Taylor Swift, watching TV shows/movies that make me laugh and cry, and going out for bubble tea with my friends.
I look forward to working with you!
