Hello there! My name is Kore Fredericks (they/them) and I’m an associate mental health counselor (LMHCA, LIC# 70040699). I enjoy working with couples, families, adults, teens, and children as young as 6 years old in-person or over telehealth. As a transmasc person with ADHD, I’m also passionate about serving trans, queer, and neurodivergent people. My other areas of focus are life adjustment issues, depression, anxiety, trauma, behavioral issues, relationship issues, developmental stages, and identity exploration.
Background
I grew up in rural Eastern Washington and spent most of my early 20s in Los Angeles. I received my bachelor’s in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Azusa Pacific University and my master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Seattle University. I have experience working with transgender and cisgender adolescents, teens, and adults. I’ve worked with youth struggling with life stage development as well as difficulties adjusting to new life circumstances. I’ve also worked with clients facing relationship and familial issues. Many of my clients have been autistic and/or had ADHD or were experiencing debilitating symptoms of anxiety or trauma.
Even living in places lacking a LGBTQ+ presence, I’ve endeavored to surround myself with community. This informs my passion for working with queer people and marginalized populations. I strongly believe that having bonds with people who see you and celebrate you is a fundamental part of wellbeing. This is why having a relationship with a therapist you trust can be so powerful on your journey to growth.
Approach
I love working as a counselor, not just because I want to help people, but because I’m always amazed by my clients. In my work, I’ve seen that all people possess incredible potential, vast emotional depths, and an unshakeable will to grow. My job is to provide an environment where you can feel safe to discover and explore these aspects of yourself.
I strive to build strong trust with my clients, and to that end, I utilize a collaborative and relational approach. Therapy works best when you feel supported, not judged, and in control of pacing and direction of sessions. I believe that every person has the capacity to practice self-advocacy and self-compassion, and I will be there to support you with optimism, patience, and unconditional positive regard.
As social beings, none of us exists in a vacuum. In our work together, I’ll draw from feminist and systemic frameworks. I’ll offer you considerations on how we operate and are affected by the political and social systems we live within in order to better understand yourself and the people around you. I also utilize mindfulness skills, as well as techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care (TIC).
