Welcome, my name is Aaron. I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) in Washington. I’m also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP).
My experience is primarily with adults, though I am also interested in working with teens. I specialize in trauma, including PTSD, mood and anxiety disorders, psychosis, and substance use disorders.
My Background
I moved from Michigan to Washington in 2017. While in Michigan, I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Michigan State University and completed my Master’s degree in counseling at University of Phoenix. Since moving to Washington, I have been enjoying hiking the beautiful trails and soaking up all Washington has to offer.
Clinical Experience
I have worked in a variety of settings, including inpatient and outpatient mental health, substance use, detoxification, and hospitalization. I have been licensed and practicing counseling since 2014 and have familiarity working with a wide range of clients, including those that are involved in the criminal justice system.
Approach
The primary framework of my counseling approach relies on Choice Theory and Reality Therapy. This is an empowering, humanistic approach that aids clients in focusing their energy and their efforts into fulfilling pursuits. I also use elements of other therapeutic styles, as appropriate, which may include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Feminist Theory, Family System Theory, and Gestalt therapy.
I also don’t expect you to necessarily know what any of those terms mean. I believe that my primary responsibility in counseling is to help you understand and learn about what is happening in your mind, and how to manage those symptoms so that you can find, or return to, a meaningful and satisfying life. Thank you for stopping by, I look forward to working with you!
