Shameka Bolton is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. She has been practicing as a psychiatric nurse practitioner since 2014. She is board certified by the American Nurse Credentialing Center and licensed to practice in Texas, Washington, Nevada, California and Arizona. Shameka is experienced in a wide array of psychiatric conditions across the entire lifespan. She is well experienced in treating substance use disorders and opioid dependence. She has extensive experience treating psychiatric conditions and substance abuse both inpatient and outpatient settings. Shameka managed the care of a large pregnant women population diagnosed with Opioid Dependence diagnosis prescribing methadone and subutex at a medication assisted treatment facility while employed in Arizona.

In addition to her extensive clinical experience, Shameka also has an outstanding academic background that includes a Doctorate of Nursing Practice Degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and completed specialized training as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner from the University of San Diego in San Diego, California.

Shameka was a co-author of a correlation study: Posttraumatic Stress Syndrome and Depression in Urban Homeless Women: A Correlation Study that was submitted to the Archives of Psychiatric Nursing in October 2014. During her training, she wrote a proposal for a parenting group about how to manage behaviors in adolescents diagnosed with common childhood mental behaviors and was the lead facilitator for the group 8-week session. She has also co facilitated post-traumatic stress syndrome groups in the past.

She is a member of American Psychiatric Nurse Association and American Nurse Association along with many other organizations. She is buprenorphine waivered and registered with Clozapine REMS.

Shameka’s combination of clinical education and experience with her degree in psychiatric nursing provides a strong academic foundation for the kind of innovative approach to patient care that Shameka feels is critical to good quality care that considers not only the psychological aspect of a patient’s illness, but the emotional and spiritual aspects as well. She believes that healing and wholeness are matters of body, mind, and spirit.
